Hernando, MS (April 21, 2022) – On Wednesday afternoon, April 20, four people were hurt in a multi-vehicle collision on a highway in Hernando.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the accident happened on I-55 in the southbound lanes of traffic. Police confirmed that one vehicle was following another too closely and struck the second vehicle. This ended in a chain-reaction collision that damaged a total of four vehicles, which had to be towed from the scene.
Several local responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. All four of the involved drivers sustained injuries in the collision and were hospitalized with various injuries. The victims have since been identified as 33-year-old Mary Freeman, 20-year-old Christopher Loney, 32-year-old Taylor Holland, and 42-year-old Renisha Ratliff.
All southbound lanes of traffic were blocked for several hours as police worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
