Stone County, MS (December 5, 2023) – On Tuesday, December 5, at approximately 2:00 a.m., police in Mississippi responded to the scene of a fatal accident in Stone County. Reports show that a 2016 Dodge Charger operated by Valerie Shanta Smith, 45, of Beaumont, was headed north on Highway 49 when it was involved in a collision with a 2013 Kia Optima operated by Kayla Watkins, 18, and passengers Tatyanna Richmond and Sedhari S. Watson-Person, all of Ocean Springs, MS, also heading north on Highway 49. Sedhari Watson-Person, who was riding in the front seat of the Kia, was fatally injured in the collision and pronounced deceased on-site. Both drivers were air-lifted from the scene with injuries deemed life-threatening.
