Byram, MS (April 11, 2023) – One person has lost their life, and six others were seriously hurt in a house fire in Byram. The tragic incident occurred on Sunday evening, April 9.
Reports from police officers show they responded to a 911 call concerning the fire on Gary Drive. The call came in at around 7:05 p.m.
After searching the house, fire crews discovered a body, which was identified as Filberto Meliso, age 77. Five others were transported to UMMC to receive treatment for the injuries they sustained in the blaze.
Two were taken by life-flight due to the severity of their injuries. Their names have not been reported at this time.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Pocahontas Volunteer Fire Department, Terry Volunteer Fire Department, Raymond VFD, Byram VFD, Byram Fire Department, and the Byram Fire Marshal.
At this time, the cause of the flames has not been reported. Authorities in Byram continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
