Mississippi Car Crashes

Hancock County, MS - Victims Hurt in Crash on I-10 near Waveland Exit

Car wrecks in Mississippi, unfortunately, happen at an alarming rate. Information gathered from statistical sources shows that over 125,000 accidents occur each year in the Magnolia State. Around 54,000 individuals are hurt in these crashes and over 1,000 end up losing their lives.

In the United States, traffic accidents are an extremely common occurrence, happening tens of thousands of times per day. Sadly, around 7,500 individuals are injured in these collisions per year. These wrecks happen for several different reasons, however, driver negligence is often the main cause. The National Highway Traffic Safety Association reports that approximately 96% of vehicle wrecks are caused by driver error/negligence. Driver negligence is defined as any activity that takes a driver’s attention away from the roadway when they’re operating a vehicle.

Driver distraction, the most common type of negligent driving seen in the United States, causes over 3,000 deaths per year and around 400,000 accidents annually. Smartphones have continued to rise in popularity among individuals, and, most everyone has one now. Even though it may seem harmless to check your phone at a red light or even look down at it while your foot is on the gas, this is never, ever safe, and could cost you and everyone around you on the road your life. Reading a text for five seconds while going 55 miles per hour is the equivalent of driving the length of an entire football field with a blindfold on.

If you or someone you love has suffered injuries in an auto accident caused by a negligent driver, a lawyer can help you recover in numerous ways. An attorney can help you file a personal injury claim for financial compensation so you can get the money you need to pay for medical bills, vehicle repairs, wage loss, and more. Negligent driving is punishable by hefty fines and, depending on the circumstances, jail time.

Those who suffer injuries due to the actions of negligent drivers often qualify for compensation for their damages when they work with a skilled and reputable car crash lawyer. However, if they attempt to collect this compensation without the help of an attorney, they may get short-changed. A skilled car accident lawyer in Hancock County will be able to help you get the maximum compensation available for your injuries and losses.
