Mississippi Car Wrecks
Car accidents are a frequent occurrence in Mississippi. On average, there are over 125,000 car wrecks reported in the Magnolia state per year. These accidents end in injuries for more than 50,000 people and take the lives of over 1,000 individuals. Currently, the leading cause of car wrecks in Mississippi is speeding. Speeding is a prevalent problem in Mississippi and throughout the United States, taking the lives of close to 5,000 people per year.
Driver negligence is the leading cause of car accidents in the United States. There are many different forms of negligence that drivers display. Currently, driver distraction causes more accidents than any other type of negligence. Distracted driving has become more widespread over the past decade or so due to the rising popularity of smartphones and other hand-held electronics. For some reason, people think it’s safe to check their phones while behind the wheel. After all, we multitask in almost every other area of our lives. However, while behind the wheel of a moving vehicle is never the time to try and multitask. Looking at your phone for five seconds while traveling 55 miles per hour is the same as driving the length of an entire football field blindfolded. In that amount of time, you could injure or end the lives of numerous people, including yourself.
If you or someone you love has been hurt by a negligent driver, you may have legal options available to help you recover.
