Southaven, MS (May 10, 2023) – One person lost their life, and another was critically injured on a highway in Southaven after a police pursuit ended in a crash on Saturday morning, May 6. Reports show the Horn Lake police department was pursuing a vehicle that was stolen when the collision occurred.
The incident occurred on Highway 51 near Veterans Drive, south of Stateline Road. The suspect’s vehicle ended up crashing into several other vehicles, authorities report. The driver lost their life at the scene, while an innocent bystander was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Drivers were asked to avoid Highway 51 between Veterans Drive and Whitworth for an extended period of time Saturday while emergency crews worked at the scene.
Traffic was backed up in the area, the Mississippi Department of Transportation reports.
