Whitfield, MS (February 7, 2024) – A woman was severely injured in a head-on collision that happened on a highway in Whitfield.
Sources say the collision occurred on Wednesday morning, February 7, at around 6:34 a.m. According to reports, the wreck occurred near the intersection of Ovett-Petal Road near Highway 29. Both vehicles suffered major damage to their front ends and one driver became trapped inside her vehicle. Emergency crews had to use extraction equipment to help the woman safely exit the wreckage. The victim was airlifted to the hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries, and Emserv Ambulance Service took them to an area medical center for treatment. Police directed traffic and Mississippi Highway 29 was reduced to a single lane for several hours while crews worked at the scene. Emergency responders with the Ovett and Johnson Volunteer Fire Department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol as well as the Jones County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
