Fatal Car Accidents in Mississippi

Lexington, MS - Two Dead in Head-On Crash on Hwy. 17

While it may come as a surprise to many, Mississippi is one of the most dangerous states in the nation for motorists. In 2020, our state had the highest per capita traffic fatality rate in the country. During that year, there were 25.4 fatal crashes per 100,000 members of the population, with 11.7 deaths per 100,000 people. Overall, this translates to approximately 700 fatalities each year in Mississippi car accidents. Many of these collisions occur due to the actions of negligent or careless drivers.

Mississippi’s car accident laws are generally favorable to injured victims. The state follows the pure comparative negligence model. This means that injured victims can typically recover something unless they were completely at fault for the accident. In cases of serious injuries or death, the scenario quickly becomes complicated. If you have tragically lost a loved one in a collision, it is in your best interest to speak with an experienced attorney as soon as possible.
